Facebook Stories Best Practices for 2026
Stories are the fastest-growing surface on Facebook. They offer a unique, raw way to connect with your audience. To succeed, you need to think vertically.
1. The 3-Second Rule
Users tap through stories fast. If they don't see something interesting in the first 3 seconds, they're gone. Use bold text and eye-catching movement in your story images.
2. Vertical Native Content (9:16)
Never post a horizontal image on Stories with black bars. It looks lazy and amateur. Always create native 1080x1920 content that fills the entire screen.
3. Use the Facebook Sticker Safe Zones
Don't place important text at the very top (where the user's profile icon is) or the very bottom (where the reply bar is). Keep your message in the middle 70% of the screen.
4. Interactive Elements
Polls, quizzes, and "swipe up" (now stickers) drive engagement. Design your story image with these interactive elements in mind, leaving space for the Facebook app's widgets.
